Is there an expiry date for incense?

Incense does not have a specific expiry date. In Bhutan, it is believed that wine, tea, and Incense become finer overtime, thus older an incense is better quality. However, it should be stored properly away from direct sunlight and moisture to retain its fragrance and effectiveness.

 

Why is the size of incense not consistent?

The size of incense sticks can vary slightly due to practising the traditional method of hand-rolling processes. This variation is normal and does not affect the quality or effectiveness of the incense.

 

Does the aroma of incense expire after a certain period?

No, the aroma of incense can last for several years if stored properly in a cool and dry place. However, the intensity of the scent may fade especially if exposed to heat, light, and humidity.

 

What are the health benefits of incense?

Incense has been used for centuries for its calming and therapeutic effects on the mind and body. Some of the health benefits of incense include:

What is the difference between Zurpoe/Zimpoe incense and Riwo Sangchoe incense ?

Zurpoe/Zimpoe incense and Riwo Sangchoe are two types of traditional hand-made incense sticks produced in accordance with ancient Buddhist scripture. The difference between the two lies in the purpose they are used for. Zurpoe/Zimpoe incense sticks come in seven grades and are used for both offering and meditational purposes. On the other hand, Riwo Sangchoe incense is used for special ceremonial purposes and comes in two types.

How different are bhutanese incense compare to tibetan and nepalese incense

 

Bhutanese incense is different from tibetan, nepal and india, is based on the intensity of the aroma and slower burning time.

 

The process of making bhutan incense

 

All ingredients are first ground into powder mix with water, sugar and honey. This mixture will then go through a fermentation process that takes about a week or so to produce its unique fragrance.


 

A tree bark, Tshe, will be added to the mixture to act as an adhesive. and further mashed before moulding to the stick shape.

 

The sticks will then straighten, trim into different lengths, and dried in the shade for 4 to 5 days.

 

HOW WE DETERMINE THE GRADES OF THE INCENSE

Juniper is the main component, and the amount of juniper determines the grade of the incense.

 

The better the Grade is, the lesser the amount of juniper being used. Therefore, increasing the ratio and aroma of the other precious ingredients
